Rehabilitation

  • Counselling and medical relief were provided to 113 villages.
  • 6,000 persons were provided counselling by 420 counsellors.
  • 110 bicycles were distributed to college students in Nagapattinam district.
  • 37 fishing-launch motors were repaired and returned to their respective owners in Cuddalore district.
  • 2,600 kg of fishing nets were distributed.
  • 373 permanent houses were constructed at Nagapattinam for the affected people.
  • In 82 villages, the relatives of the dead were given all support for performing the 16th day rites; special prayers were also conducted. This was for the good of the departed souls. This also helped the bereaved families to start a new chapter in their lives.
  • Where the 16th day ceremonies could not be performed, Atma-shanti-poojas, lighting Moksha-deepam, etc. were done on various days for the good of the departed souls and to give solace to their relatives.
  • In 138 villages, Ganga-mata-poojas were performed to sanctify the locality, to instil confidence in the villagers minds and to create enthusiasm in the fishermen to venture into the sea once again. 1,200 women from the self-help groups of Thiruvarur and Thanjavur districts participated in this initiative.
  • At all possible locations, the affected people were given guidance and support for performing the first-year ceremonies for the departed.
  • In 21 villages near Chennai, Pongal festival was celebrated by Sevabharathi volunteers with the affected people on Makara-sankranti Day. This marked the return to normal life after a year of mourning. Bhajans were conducted and various competitions (Rangoli, Kabbadi, etc.) were also held to add colour to the celebrations.


The Total value of the relief material distributed is Rs.5.66 Crores.
